Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection organized, in partnership with the Moroccan Association of Addictive Medicine and Associated Pathologies (MAPA) and the African Global Health (AGH) the first African Conference on Health Harm Reduction held in Marrakech from 16 to 18 November 2022.

The organization of this conference was part of the dynamics of the global health system and the growing need to reform it, following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a view to crisis anticipation and risk management. Morocco has initiated the adoption of strategies and projects concerning the overhaul of the national health system in order to ensure the effective implementation of the Royal project relating to the generalization of social protection.

This international event aimed to create an African platform for enriching exchange in the field of public health and risk prevention based on the experience of different countries and the points of view of national and international experts, in order to share Moroccan experience and skills, thus helping to determine best practices at the level of governance and to face budgetary and financial sustainability challenges in the health sector. This conference was animated by panels and workshops which revolved around several axes including: ‘The budgetary challenges of the health system in Africa’, ‘The importance of human resources’, ‘The question of public partnership – private’ as well as ‘The digitization of the health sector with the innovations of the digital era’.

Besides, an interesting reflection was made on the role of future medicine in Africa, and its impact on the future of African societies. A white paper book signing session was also planned during the event.
